Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War said that, as part of ongoing repatriation efforts, the bodies of 1,212 fallen Ukrainian soldiers have been returned to Ukraine.
The remains include troops who died in Russia’s Kursk region, as well as in several Ukrainian regions: Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson.
Earlier, during negotiations in Istanbul, Russia had pledged to transfer the remains of approximately 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers. Moscow has accused Kyiv of delaying the process.
Russia and Ukraine carried out a prisoner exchange on June 9 involving captives under the age of 25, followed by a June 10 exchange of wounded soldiers.
