The Russian Justice Ministry has updated its “foreign agents” registry to include Russian writer Boris Akunin and the publication Kholod,” among others.
The ministry’s statement said that those added to the list had spoken out against the “special military operation” and that Akunin had “participated in fundraising events for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
Russia’s financial monitoring service added Akunin to its registry of “extremists and terrorists” on December 18. Later the same day, the Russian Investigative Committee charged Akunin with spreading “disinformation” about the Russian army and publicly justifying terrorism.
