A new monument to Joseph Stalin was unveiled in the Russian city of Volgograd (previously Stalingrad) on Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Battle of Stalingrad (February 2, 1943). The statue, a bronze bust of the dictator, now sits just 120 meters (about 390 feet) from a memorial to the victims of his political repressions.
