A Moscow court ordered the arrest in absentia of journalist and documentary filmmaker Andrei Loshak on a charge of “justification of terrorism,” the Russian Telegram news channel Ostorozhno Novosti reported.
The hearing was held September 29, though the case and the arrest had not previously been reported. The nature of the case remains unknown.
Loshak has been placed on the wanted list but has not yet been added to the registry of terrorists and extremists maintained by Rosfinmonitoring, Russia’s Federal Financial Monitoring Service.
Andrei Loshak is a Russian journalist and the author of documentary films and reportages. His recent work includes the film Pentagon, about residents of the Saratov region who live below the poverty line, as well as the project Vozrast nesoglasiya “The Age of Dissent,” about supporters of Alexei Navalny who took part in his 2018 campaign. After the start of Russia’s full-scale war with Ukraine, he left the country. In 2023, Russia’s Justice Ministry designated him a “foreign agent.”
