Russia and Ukraine exchange 205 prisoners each

Source: Meduza

Russia and Ukraine each returned 205 prisoners, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Friday.

Zelensky confirmed that 205 prisoners of war had returned to Ukraine, calling it the first stage of the 1,000-for-1,000 exchange agreed upon alongside the Victory Day truce.

The previous exchange took place on April 24, when both sides transferred 193 people each.

After the three-day Victory Day ceasefire announced on May 8 by U.S. President Donald Trump — who said the truce would include a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange — Zelensky said on May 10, the second day of the ceasefire, that Ukraine’s coordination headquarters had sent Russia exchange lists. The ceasefire ended at midnight on May 12, but the exchange had not taken place by that point.
