Putin spokesman says issue of returning Navalny’s body falls outside Kremlin’s authority
The issue of handing over Alexey Navalny’s body to his family does not fall under the Kremlin’s authority, Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday.
“No, that’s not a question for us. We’re not handling this case. It’s not a function of the presidential administration,” state media quoted Peskov as saying.
Asked about whether the authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding Navalny’s death, the press secretary said that a probe is “being conducted” and that “all of the necessary actions in this regard are being carried out.”
“But so far, the results of this investigation have not been disclosed and are in fact unknown,” he added.
When journalists asked Peskov whether the Kremlin is interested in conducting its own thorough investigation into Navalny’s death, he responded: “The measures required by Russian legislation are being carried out.”
