Russian Foreign Ministry warns Russians of risks when traveling abroad

Source: Meduza

The Russian Foreign Ministry has urged citizens to “carefully weigh all risks” when planning trips abroad and staying in “unfriendly” countries, as well as to “exercise increased vigilance and restraint.”

The Foreign Ministry issued its statement (quoted by Interfax) in connection with the European Commission’s clarifications on the application of sanctions, after which E.U. countries bordering Russia banned cars with Russian license plates from entering their territories.

The statement warns Russians that when crossing the border, they voluntarily place themselves under foreign jurisdiction and are obligated to comply with the laws and regulations of the country of visit. It further advises Russian citizens who “find themselves in a difficult situation abroad” to contact the Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Management Center and Russian-speaking lawyers from the lists posted on the Foreign Ministry’s website.
