Erdogan says ‘no prospects for peace on the horizon’ after meeting with Putin

Following talks with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Sochi, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan briefed journalists on the results of the visit, the Turkish outlet Milliyet reported.

In particular, referring to Russia’s ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Erdogan said that there are currently “no prospects for peace on the horizon.” Erdogan emphasized that Turkey has been in favour of peace, dialogue, and diplomacy since the first day of the war.

Erdogan also commented on the possibility of resuming the grain deal, which was the main subject of the talks between Putin and Erdogan. The Turkish president said that the U.N. Secretary General Guterres suggested “an intermediary mechanism that would result from the SWIFT transaction, not directly SWIFT as the Russians wanted.”
