Former head of Navalny’s Barnaul headquarters sentenced to nine years in prison colony

The Barnaul Central District Court has sentenced the former head of Alexey Navalny’s local headquarters, Vadim Ostanin, to nine years in a general regime prison colony. According to the politician’s team, Ostanin was tried for his legal political work.

Ostanin was arrested in December 2021. He was prosecuted for participating in an extremist community and a non-profit organization that infringes on the interests of the individual. According to the investigation, Ostanin continued to work in Navalny’s organization after they were recognized as “extremist” in Russia.

The prosecutor’s office asked that Ostanin be sentenced to 11 years in prison.
