U.K. Defense Ministry: Russia taking heaviest losses since battle for Bakhmut in southern Ukraine

Source: Meduza

The U.K. Defense Ministry reports in its daily update that both Russia and Ukraine are taking heavy losses in the battle for southern Ukraine.

The Ministry also notes that Russian losses are likely the highest since March, during the peak of the battle for Bakhmut. The daily update does not specify whether “losses” refers only to deaths, or to wounded fighters as well.

The U.K. Defense Ministry estimates that over 60,000 Russian fighters have been killed or wounded in Bakhmut alone since May 2022. Data from the U.S. indicate that around 10,000 Wagner fighters were killed in Bakhmut between December 2022 and May 2023.
