Shoigu says Russian troops hit another Patriot missile system in Kyiv ‘in recent days’
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said that Russian troops hit a U.S.-made Patriot missile defense system in Kyiv “in recent days,” the state news agency RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday.
Speaking on a conference call with journalists, Shoigu added that the Ukrainian military lost at least 16,000 soldiers and more than 400 units of equipment in May. He also said that Russian forces intercepted and destroyed 196 HIMARS missile systems, 16 HARM missiles, and 29 Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
The Ukrainian authorities have not commented on Shoigu’s statements.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed earlier this month that it destroyed a Patriot missile system in Kyiv on the night of May 15. On May 18, the Pentagon reported that the system had been repaired.
Since the start of May, the Ukrainian capital has come under attack by Russian forces 17 times, according to city authorities.
