Navalny supporters plan worldwide rallies to protest his prison conditions and new ‘terrorism’ trial
The supporters of Alexey Navalny, an imprisoned opposition politician once again on trial in Russia, are planning a worldwide series of protests against what looks like a concerted effort by Vladimir Putin’s regime to keep Navalny in prison indefinitely, and to make his conditions there intolerable.
Last October, Navalny wrote that Russia’s Investigative Committee had launched a new criminal case against him. The new set of allegations, he said, included terrorist and extremist propaganda, financing extremism, and “rehabilitation of the Nazi ideology.” The case is now being heard by a military court.
April 29 rallies are planned in Tallinn, Lisbon, Tbilisi, Melbourne, and Göttingen. April 30 is the scheduled date for protests in Chicago, Denver, Portland (Oregon), and Tulsa, Oklahoma. The full list of cities committed to holding protests is being updated.
The organizers are suggesting slogans like “Navalny is being killed right now,” “Putin is poisoning Navalny again,” and “Navalny is in danger of dying.”
