Drone explodes in Russia’s Kaluga region

A drone exploded in a forest near the Russian city of Kaluga on Monday morning, according to Governor Vladislav Shapsha. Suburban residents reported hearing the explosion.

According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties and no infrastructure damage. Authorities haven’t provided specific information about the type of drone used.

This isn’t the first time a drone has appeared in the Kaluga region in recent months. In October, one exploded at the region’s Shaykovka military airbase, while another was shot down by air defense forces in the region a week later. In late December, Kaluga authorities banned the use of drones in the region.

Correction: An earlier version of this news brief said the drone was shot down. Meduza apologizes for the error.
