For the first time since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, a criminal complaint has been filed against someone in Russia for insulting Ukrainians on the basis of nationality.

The alleged offender is an Omsk resident named Nikolai Karnishov. According to the charges brought against him, Karnishov, made a post on social media that spoke negatively about “a group of people united on the basis of belonging to the nationality ‘Ukrainians.’” The local news outlet Sibir.Realii reported that the post itself has already been deleted.

Last year, Karnishov was fined 10,000 rubles ($162) for insulting people on the basis of nationality, while in September of this year, he was given a two-year prison sentence for inciting hatred against women in another social media post.
