Russia will begin supplying gas as humanitarian aid to Moldova’s breakaway region of Transnistria, but not to the rest of Moldova, Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselsky announced on Wednesday, according to Russian state media.

Transnistria has been facing widespread heating and power outages since January 1, when Moldova stopped receiving Russian gas due to the expiration of the gas transit agreement between Ukraine and Russia.

The Russian authorities have not commented on Krasnoselsky’s statement.
