Over 280 people arrested at memorial protests for Alexey Navalny throughout Russia

Update: As of 8:03 p.m. Moscow time, at least 284 people in 31 Russian cities have been arrested at memorial protests for Navalny, according to OVD-Info. At least 143 people have been arrested in St. Petersburg and at least 49 people in Moscow.

Moscow police have begun arresting people who came to leave flowers at the city’s Wall of Grief in memory of Alexey Navalny, whose death was reported by Russian prison officials on Friday. The Telegram channels Sota and RusNews have published videos from the protest. According to Sota, at least six people have been arrested.

Police have also reportedly arrested protesters in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Samara, Tomsk, Yekaterinburg, and Ulan-Ude.

The human rights media project OVD-Info reported that as of Saturday morning, 101 people had been arrested at memorial protests for Alexey Navalny in 10 Russian cities. The highest number of arrests was recorded in St. Petersburg, where 64 people were reportedly taken into custody.
