Occupation official says Russian plane accidentally dropped bomb on town in ‘Luhansk People’s Republic’
Update: Luhansk Governor Artem Lysohor reported that multiple apartment buildings were damaged in Rubizhne as a result of Russia’s accidental bomb drop. “The injured are being hospitalized… The search for missing people is ongoing,” Lysohor wrote on Facebook.
Leonid Pasechnik, the Moscow-backed head of the self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic,” said Monday that a Russian plane accidentally dropped an aerial bomb on the town of Rubizhne.
According to Pasechnik, the “unplanned discharge” of a FAB-250 occurred while a Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft was performing a combat mission.
The occupation official said that nobody was injured and that residents of the area were evacuated from their homes. Russian officials are reportedly working at the scene to disarm the weapon.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the incident, which marks the second time the Russian military has accidentally dropped munitions on Russian or Russian-controlled territory since the start of January.
