Hundreds of Belgorod residents evacuate after unexploded ordnance found in Russian border town
Authorities in the Russian city of Belgorod, which lies near the Ukrainian border and has come under multiple rounds of shelling in recent days, called for approximately 600 people to evacuate on Wednesday after a piece of unexploded ordnance was found.
“Literally just a few hours ago, I asked you all to be more cautious due to the risk that unexploded ordnance had fallen because of the large amount of shelling. Today, sappers found one such shell on Krasnoarmeyskaya Street,” Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram.
The governor said that local military officials had decided to evacuate the residents of the 323 homes within a 500-meter radius of the explosive and place them in temporary housing.
