The Polish authorities have decided to deploy a total of 10,000 troops on the country’s border with Belarus, the news agency Polska Agencja Prasowa reported on Thursday, citing the country’s defense minister, Mariusz Błaszczak.
According to Błaszczak, 4,000 soldiers will provide support for border guards while 6,000 more will be in reserve. Earlier, the head of Poland’s border service asked the Defense Ministry to send 1,000 troops to the country’s border with Belarus.
Błaszczak said that if Poland continues to strengthen its defense sector, it will have the strongest land army in Europe within two years. “Better to spend on the Polish Armed Forces than on foreign troops,” he added.
