President of Belarus says Yevgeny Prigozhin currently in Russia
According to the deal that was announced after his rebellion, Wagner Group military cartel founder Yevgeny Prigozhin should be in Belarus. However, Alexander Lukashenko told a group of journalists on July 6 that Prigozhin was in St. Petersburg.
“He is not on the territory of Belarus,” Lukashenko was quoted by Telegram channel Pul Pervovo, which is associated with his press service.
His Wagner Group mercenaries, according to Lukashenko, “are in their camps.” He did not specify where these camps were. It was previously reported that a tent camp, assumed to host the mercenaries, was being put up in Mogilev region.
The decision to send Prigozhin to Belarus was made after talks between Prigozhin and Lukashenko, during which the Wagner Group founder was invited to “go to Belarus.” On the other hand, his mercenaries were offered multiple options: “go to Belarus,” sign a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry or other security agencies, or leave military service and “return home.”
