Russia carries out new round of missile attacks on Kyiv and Odesa
Russia launched missile attacks on multiple Ukrainian cities on Wednesday night. According to Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine’s commander-in-chief, the Russian military sent a total of 30 cruise missiles, 29 of which were shot down by Ukrainian air defenses. According to Kyiv City Military Administration head Serhii Popko, the attack marked Russia’s ninth one on the city since the start of May.
After launching cruise missiles from strategic bombers in the Caspian Sea area, Russia sent reconnaissance drones into the city. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that Ukrainian air defenses shot down all of Russia’s weapons that entered Kyiv’s airspace.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, debris from the weapons fell in the city’s Desnianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts. “The most damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi district, where a fire broke out on the territory of a garage cooperative. The fire has been extinguished,” he said on Telegram.
Kyiv region police posted photos of the remains of the downed missiles.
Russian also carried out a large-scale missile attack on Odesa on Wednesday night. According to Odesa Regional Military Administration head Serhii Bratchuk, while most of the missiles were shot down, one evaded Ukraine’s air defenses and struck an industrial facility, killing one person and injuring two.
Authorities in the Khmelnytskyi region reported that Russia carried out a strike on an infrastructure target in the Khmelnytskyi district but did not include information about injuries. Explosions were also heard in the country’s Vinnytsia region.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the latest wave of attacks.
