A MiG-31 fighter jet crashed in Russia’s Murmansk region, the Telegram channel Baza and Russian state news agency TASS reported on Wednesday.
According to a source from the Russian authorities who spoke to TASS, one of the plane’s motors caught on fire during a routine flight, causing it to crash into a lake. “The pilots were likely catapulted out; eyewitnesses claim that they saw two parachuters in the area,” he said.
A different source told Baza that the pilots were found alive in the area.
The Russian authorities later confirmed that the pilots survived and that the area where the plane crashed was free of people.
