The Russian military carried out missile strikes on cities throughout Ukraine on the morning of March 9. The Ukrainian authorities declared an air raid alert throughout the entire country.
Local officials and media outlets reported explosions in Kyiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Zhytomyr, as well as in the Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Ternopil regions. Air defense systems were activated in multiple regions.
According to Governor Oleh Synyehubov, Russian forces launched 15 strikes in the Kharkiv region, targeting critical infrastructure. Preliminary reports indicate that at least one residential building was hit. No casualties have been reported.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported multiple explosions in the city’s Holosiivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts. At least two people were reportedly injured.
Odesa Governor Maksym Marchenko said that one critical infrastructure facility and multiple residential buildings were damaged by Russian shelling.
Electricity was reportedly turned off in several regions as a preventative measure.
The Ukrainian energy company Energoatom reported that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost power as a result of Russian strikes. Ukrainian Railways said that at least 15 trains were delayed.
The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the reports.
