Khamzat Kadyrov, Chechnya Governor Ramzan Kadyrov’s 26-year-old nephew, has been appointed deputy prime minister for private property and real estate in Chechnya.

The appointment was announced by Ramzan Kadyrov, who described his nephew Khamzat as a “talented and reliable leader” who proved himself in his previous government jobs.

In February 2020, Khamzat Kadyrov, then 23 years old, was appointed Chechnya’s minister of sport. At the time, Ramzan Kadyrov explained the appointment as appropriate for a grandson of Akhmat Kadyrov.

According to the Chechnya governor’s official website, Khamzat Kadyrov stepped down from that post in August 2021. Next September, he traveled to the self-proclaimed Donetsk “republic” to visit the Chechen fighters deployed there. Ramzan Kadyrov then introduced his nephew as the head of his office.

In 2018, BBC News Russian calculated that 30 percent of Chechnya’s 158 senior officials were members of the Kadyrov family. Another 23 percent were natives of Ramzan Kadyrov’s community; 12 percent of the pool were Kadyrov’s friends and their own relatives.

In 2021, Kadyrov appointed his 22-year-old daughter Aishat the republic’s culture minister.
