Russian Defense Ministry publishes names of officers killed in submarine fire

The Russian Defense Ministry has published the names of the submarine officers who died in a fire on a deep-sea vessel in the Barents Sea:

  • Denis Dolonsky, Captain First Rank, Hero of Russia
  • Nikolai Filin, Captain First Rank, Hero of Russia
  • Vladimir Abankin, Captain First Rank
  • Andrey Voskresensky, Captain First Rank
  • Konstantin Ivanov, Captain First Rank
  • Denis Oparin, Captain First Rank
  • Konstantin Somov, Captain First Rank
  • Alexander Avdonin, Captain Second Rank
  • Sergey Danilchenko, Captain Second Rank
  • Dmitry Solovyov, Captain Second Rank
  • Viktor Kuzmin, Captain Third Rank
  • Vladimir Sukhinichev, Captain Third Rank
  • Mikhail Dubkov, Captain-Lieutenant
  • Alexander Vasilyev, Medical Service Lieutenant Colonel

All of the victims were reportedly serving in Division 45707, which is based in the St. Petersburg suburb of Peterhof.

Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced that there were survivors on the craft as well. Unofficial reports have indicated that 25 people were onboard at the time of the fire.
