Russians should share equally in the burden of the war against Ukraine, Anatoly Lokot, a lawmaker from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), said in a speech to the State Duma.

“We want the burden of this war, of overcoming the obstacles that arise, to be shared equally by everyone, by all citizens of our country. We want the effort to overcome these difficulties, this struggle, to unite us rather than divide us,” he said.

At Tuesday’s session, the State Duma considered a bill to approve the final accounts for the 2025 budget. Lawmakers approved the report, which showed a deficit of 5.63 trillion rubles. The Accounts Chamber, Russia’s public spending watchdog, found budget violations totaling 580 billion rubles — 30.7% more than a year earlier.

The KPRF faction refused to support the report, citing “systemic problems” with the budget.
