Russian state adds journalist and mega-popular YouTuber Yury Dud to its terrorist and extremist registry
Russia’s financial intelligence agency, Rosfinmonitoring, has added journalist Yury Dud to its registry of terrorists and extremists.
In the registry, an asterisk next to Dud’s surname indicates that there is “information about [his] involvement in terrorism.” There is no known criminal case against Dud on terrorism-related charges.
In April 2022, Russia’s Justice Ministry designated Dud a “foreign agent.” In the summer of 2025, authorities opened a criminal investigation into his alleged failure to meet his obligations as a “foreign agent.” That November, a court sentenced Dud in absentia to one year and 10 months in a penal colony.
In April 2026, Dud’s channel released a nearly five-hour interview with Denis Kapustin, commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC). Russia has designated the RVC a “terrorist organization.” Immediately after the interview’s release, Investigative Committee head Alexander Bastrykin ordered officials to “conduct a legal review” of Dud’s actions.
