Ukrainian drones strike Russian chemical plant that produces materials used in explosives
Ukrainian drones struck Perm Krai on the morning of September 11, hitting industrial facilities, Governor Dmitry Makhonin said, without specifying which enterprises were affected.
Journalists at the independent Telegram channel Astra identified one of the targets as the Azot plant, a branch of the Uralchem company in Berezniki, 180 kilometers (112 miles) from Perm. The plant is a major producer of nitrogen fertilizers and chemical raw materials also used to make explosives, and employs about 2,500 people.
Plant employees told Astra that explosions had halted production. After the attack, Berezniki residents complained of a chemical smell, according to the Telegram channel Perm 36.6. Media reports said schools in the city canceled classes and clinics suspended scheduled patient appointments.
Uralchem has not yet officially commented on the attack’s aftermath.
It was not the first Ukrainian strike on the plant. Drones already attacked Azot in Berezniki in October 2025.
