Moscow to deploy reservists to intercept drones
The Moscow Military District will form drone-interceptor units staffed by reservists.
The reservists will be used “to reinforce air defense at critically important facilities,” the district’s press service stated.
The units will primarily fly high-speed interceptor drones.
No timeline has been set for deploying the units. Military officials said instructor retraining is currently underway. Training of the reservists themselves will begin once that work is finished.
Reservists are individuals who have voluntarily signed a contract with Russia’s Defense Ministry and must remain on standby for call-up at all times.
Since spring 2026, reservists have been deployed to guard the skies over the Leningrad region from drones.
