As Russia’s fuel crisis drags into its second month, one Arctic hospital is offering free fuel for reproductive health checkups
A district hospital in Naryan-Mar, the administrative center of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, is offering fuel cards worth 1,000 rubles to anyone who gets a free reproductive health checkup. The independent Russian news outlet Verstka spotted the promotion.
The cards are part of a two-month campaign called “One Day for Family Health,” which launched on June 21 — by which point the fuel crisis had already spread across a large part of Russia. The hospital says the number of cards is limited; as of July 10, 77 people had received one.
“Each of these [people] now knows exactly where their reproductive health stands. Some received recommendations; others, peace of mind and confidence in the future. And everyone got a fuel card as a gift,” the hospital said in a post advertising the campaign.
