Amid a domestic fuel shortage, Russia has begun importing gasoline from India by sea, Reuters reported, citing industry sources.
One source said India has already shipped at least 60,000 metric tons to Russia. Another source said two tankers, each carrying 30,000 to 40,000 tons of gasoline, are bound for Russia.
Russia plans to import 400,000 tons of gasoline per month from various countries, a third source told the agency.
In summer, Russia consumes at least 110,000 tons of gasoline per day, Reuters said.
India is one of the largest buyers of Russian oil. In June, Reuters reported, India’s crude oil imports from Russia hit a record — 2.7 million barrels per day, accounting for more than half of India’s total crude oil imports.
Russia has ramped up fuel purchases from Belarus amid a fuel shortage caused by Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries. Since early May, the price of Belarusian gasoline delivered to Russia has risen 80%.
