Police shut down highway near Putin’s Valdai residence

Traffic police shut down the M-11 highway on June 26, the Russian Telegram news channel Ostorozhno Novosti reported. Officers stopped traffic in both directions on the toll road at around 10:00 a.m. Moscow time without explanation, eyewitnesses said. A traffic jam formed near the village of Kolomno in the Tver region.

The road was closed for several dozen kilometers near Vladimir Putin’s Valdai residence, Agentstvo reported, citing Google Maps data, which showed the closure stretching 90 kilometers (56 miles) until 5:00 p.m. Russian mapping services Yandex Maps and 2GIS did not register the closure, though both showed traffic jams on the road.

In 2023, the publication Proekt reported that near Putin’s Valdai residence there is a home belonging to Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva — she is believed to be the mother of three of the Russian president’s children.
