Report: Ukrainian drone strikes apartment building in Russia, sparking a fire and injuring multiple people; possible fatalities

A Ukrainian drone struck a residential building in Cheboksary on the morning of May 5, according to the Telegram channels Shot and Ostorozhno Novosti, citing eyewitnesses. The strike set the building on fire.

Sergei Artamonov, chairman of the Chuvashia cabinet of ministers, said a building had been damaged in Cheboksary and that several people were injured and under medical supervision, without specifying which building.

The Telegram channel Astra reports that the drone struck an apartment building on Stroiteley Street. A fire also broke out in a residential building on Leninskogo Komsomola Street, near the defense plant VNIIR-Progress.

Baza, a Telegram channel with ties to law enforcement, reports that one person was killed and 10 more were injured when a drone struck an apartment building. The Telegram channel Shot puts the toll at one dead and 12 injured in the drone strikes on Cheboksary.

Public transit in Cheboksary has been suspended in connection with the drone attacks. The regional Transport Ministry announced: “Due to the current situation in the city and in order to ensure your safety, public transit has been temporarily suspended for an indefinite period. We ask you to remain calm, stay home if possible, and monitor official communications.”

Ukrainian drones have been striking Cheboksary since the night of May 5. Authorities reported three people injured. Astra and the Ukrainian Telegram channel Exilenova reported that Ukrainian forces struck the defense enterprise VNIIR-Progress.
