Russian journalist charged with unauthorized access to computer data as part of a group
Russian journalist Oleg Roldugin has been charged with unauthorized access to computer data as part of a group, the independent Russian news outlet Novaya Gazeta, where he works as a columnist, reported.
Roldugin was detained on April 9. That same day, investigators searched the Novaya Gazeta newsroom for more than 13 hours. On April 10, a Moscow court authorized his arrest.
At the pretrial detention hearing, prosecutors described the case as involving unauthorized access to computer data, but did not mention the group element of the charge.
BBC Russia reported that the criminal prosecution may have been prompted by an anonymous Telegram channel called Bolshe, chem fakt (More Than a Fact). The channel, which has more than 34,000 subscribers, contains posts about the private jet flights of Dmitry Medvedev, Alexei Mordashov, and Vladimir Yevtushenkov — the same subjects Roldugin had covered in his articles.
