A man sentenced to life in prison for his role in the Crocus City Hall attack has died by suicide at a Moscow pretrial detention center, RBC reported, citing the Moscow branch of Russia’s Federal Penitentiary Service.
Resuscitation efforts at the scene were unsuccessful, the agency stated, adding that an investigation was underway and results were expected the same day.
The agency did not name the individual.
The Russian law enforcement-linked Telegram channel Shot identified him as Yakubjoni Yusufzoda, 37. Yusufzoda died at Matrosskaya Tishina, a pretrial detention center in Moscow. Doctors transported him to a hospital, where attempts to save him also failed.
The Crocus City Hall attack took place on March 22, 2024. Gunmen stormed the complex just as a concert was about to begin, opened fire on the audience and staff, and set the concert hall ablaze, killing 150 people.
In March 2026, a military court in Moscow sentenced four of the attackers to life in prison: Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni, and Muhammadsobir Fayzov. Eleven other defendants, considered by investigators to have aided the attackers, also received life sentences. Yusufzoda Yakubjoni was among them.
