Ukraine is planning new long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Monday.
“We will continue our active operations exactly as needed to defend Ukraine. The forces and resources are ready. We’ve also planned new deep strikes,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram after a meeting with Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
Zelensky did not specify what weapons would be used for these strikes.
Late last week, the Pentagon reported that the U.S. State Department had approved the sale of up to 3,350 ERAM missiles to Ukraine, with a range of up to 450 kilometers (280 miles). The missiles could be delivered to the Ukrainian military as early as this fall. It’s still unclear whether Washington will allow them to be used against Russian territory.
On August 20, Zelensky announced that Ukraine had successfully tested its own Flamingo cruise missile, which he said has a range of up to 3,000 kilometers (1,860 miles). According to him, mass production of these missiles could begin within six months.
