Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Magadan in Russia’s Far East on August 15, ahead of his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska, Interfax reported, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
During the trip, Putin is expected to visit several sites, including a fish processing plant, a cultural center, and a sports complex, and to meet with Magadan Governor Sergey Nosov.
“Naturally, given our country’s geography, the president never misses an opportunity to address regional matters. Then he will head to Alaska to begin work on Russian–American affairs,” Peskov told reporters.
Later on August 15, Putin and Trump are scheduled to meet in Alaska to discuss ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.
On the eve of the U.S.–Russia summit, supporters of Ukraine staged a protest in Anchorage, with additional rallies planned for the day of the talks.
