U.S. President Donald Trump said his special envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Russia after completing his current trip to Israel and Gaza.
“Yeah, going to Israel and then he’s going to Russia, believe it or not,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Thursday, according to Bloomberg.
The president added that he expects to impose sanctions on Russia once the deadline he set for a ceasefire with Ukraine expires. He said he doesn’t believe sanctions will influence Russian President Vladimir Putin’s behavior.
“We have about eight days, so yeah, we’re going to put sanctions. I don’t know that sanctions bother him [Putin],” Trump said.
