Kremlin has ‘taken note’ of Trump’s decision to shorten ceasefire deadline, spokesperson says
The Kremlin has taken into account Donald Trump’s announcement that he was shortening the deadline he’d set for Moscow to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine, Putin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday.
“We’ve taken note of President Trump’s statements yesterday. The special military operation continues, and we remain committed to a peaceful resolution of the conflict around Ukraine — one that secures our interests as part of that process,” Peskov said, according to state media.
Asked to comment on Trump’s remark that he was no longer interested in holding phone calls with Vladimir Putin, Peskov said he would “prefer not to offer any assessment.”
“Once again: we’ve taken note of President Trump’s statements,” he reiterated.
Peskov added that a potential meeting between Putin and Trump “was never on the agenda, and still isn’t.”
On Monday, Trump said he was disappointed in Putin and planned to shorten the 50-day deadline he had given Moscow to reach a ceasefire. He later specified that he would cut that period down to 10–12 days.
