Russia state media says next round of talks with Ukraine expected in Istanbul this week

Russia and Ukraine are expected to hold a new round of talks in Istanbul later this week, the Russian state news agency TASS has reported, citing an informed source.

The source said that the dates are “still being finalized.” The report provided no further details.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said over the weekend that Kyiv had proposed holding another round of talks with Moscow this week. He added:

We need to speed up the negotiation process. We must do everything we can do achieve a ceasefire. The Russian side needs to stop avoiding decisions: prisoner exchanges, the return of children, an end to the killing. And we need a meeting at the leadership level to lay the groundwork for real, lasting peace. Ukraine is ready for such a meeting,
