Russian air defenses shot down 15 Ukrainian drones headed toward Moscow early Monday morning, according to the city’s mayor, Sergey Sobyanin.
Sobyanin said debris from the drones fell near the settlement of Kievsky in the New Moscow district. “Emergency services are at the scene. All necessary measures are being taken. According to preliminary reports, there are no serious damages or injuries,” he said.
The Telegram channel Baza posted a video showing a fire on the roof of a high-rise building in Kievsky.
Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency temporarily suspended operations at all four of Moscow’s airports. The restrictions remained in place for about three hours.
In the Rostov region, Ukrainian drones were also shot down over the cities of Novoshakhtinsk, Shakhty, and Novocherkassk, Governor Yury Slyusar said. Falling debris sparked several fires, including one near the train station in the settlement of Kamenolomni. Russian Railways reported delays affecting 26 passenger trains.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 74 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed overnight, including 23 over the Moscow region.
