Update: Agentstvo wrote that the target of the drone strike may have been a local branch of the Russian Defense Ministry’s Central Scientific Research Institute, located about 600 meters (650 yards) from the beach. Debris from a downed drone may have fallen onto the beach.

Ukrainian drones struck a city beach in Russia’s Kursk late Tuesday, killing three people and injuring six others, according to acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein.

“Late in the evening, on a holiday, the enemy deliberately struck a place where civilians were present. There is no rational explanation for this,” Khinshtein wrote on Telegram.

Earlier, an air raid alert had been declared in the region due to the threat of a drone attack.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have not commented on the strike.
