‘We were shocked’: Kremlin declines to comment on minister’s apparent suicide

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Vladimir Putin had been informed about the suicide of former Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit, who was found dead shortly after his dismissal from his post on Tuesday.

The Kremlin declined to offer further comment on the matter, according to state media.

“In this case, I wouldn’t want to comment on it in any way. Of course, the president was immediately informed. News like this is always tragic and sad,” Peskov told reporters.

It’s something that shocks any normal person. Naturally, we were shocked as well. But there’s an investigation underway, and it will answer all the questions. While the investigation is ongoing, people can speculate — journalists, political analysts, and so on — but it wouldn’t be appropriate for us to do so.
