Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has urged Russian citizens who are planning to travel to Azerbaijan or currently there to “carefully consider” the escalating diplomatic dispute between the two countries.

“For those asking us whether they should plan their trips, what they should do, and how to behave given what Azerbaijani TV channels and news agencies are reporting: of course, if our citizens are in Azerbaijan or planning to go there, they need to carefully consider the current situation,” state media quoted her as saying.

She also assured citizens that the Russian embassy in Azerbaijan is ready to assist relatives and close contacts of detained Russian citizens.

According to Zakharova, Russian diplomats have received 11 inquiries “from people who recognized their relatives in footage broadcast by Azerbaijani media.” She added, “Our embassy is in contact with them and will continue to maintain communication.”
