Kremlin spokesperson says Moscow has helped Iran by taking a ‘clear position’

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has responded to criticism that Russia has not done enough to support Iran.

“There are many who would like to pour fuel on the fire and damage the partnership between Moscow and Tehran,” Peskov said at a briefing, as quoted by The Telegram channel You Listened to Mayak.

“Russia has indeed supported Iran through the clear position it has taken,” he added, noting that this “clear position” was positively received during President Putin’s June 23 meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the Kremlin.

“We intend to continue developing our relationship with Iran,” Peskov said.

On June 13, Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including nuclear facilities, senior military officials, and nuclear scientists. Iran responded by firing missiles at Israeli territory. On June 22, the United States carried out strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. The following day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had brokered a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

On June 24, both countries said they had agreed to halt hostilities. However, after the ceasefire announced by Trump went into effect, Israel reported that Iranian missiles had again been launched toward its territory — a claim Iran denied.
