Kremlin confirms latest Ukrainian attack on Crimean Bridge, says ‘nothing was damaged’
The Kremlin has confirmed that an explosion occurred on the Crimean Bridge, as reported by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) on Tuesday.
“There was indeed an explosion. Nothing was damaged. The bridge is operational,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters at a briefing. “The Kyiv regime continues its attempts to attack civilian infrastructure. The Russian side is taking appropriate precautions, given the well-known nature of the Kyiv regime.”
On June 3, Ukraine’s Security Service said it had carried out a “new and unique special operation” involving an underwater blast targeting the bridge’s structural supports. The agency released video footage of the operation and said the explosion left the bridge “in critical condition.” Monitoring groups also reported an attack on the bridge using naval drones that same day. While Russian officials made no public statements at the time, vehicle traffic was twice halted for several hours.
The SBU has claimed responsibility for two previous attacks on the Crimean Bridge across the Kerch Strait — one in the fall of 2022 and another in the summer of 2023. The first killed five people; the second, a married couple. Ukrainian officials maintain that the bridge is a legitimate military target, as it serves as a key supply route for Russian forces operating in Ukraine.
