Russian forces launched 108 strike drones and decoy UAVs at Ukraine overnight on May 12, according to the Ukrainian Air Force Command.
The Ukrainian military said air defense units managed to shoot down 55 of the strike drones. An additional 30 decoy drones were “lost from radar without negative consequences.”
On May 10, Ukrainian authorities announced they were prepared to implement a “full and unconditional ceasefire on land, at sea, and in the air for at least 30 days,” beginning Monday, May 12. In the early hours of May 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed holding direct talks in Istanbul starting May 15.
Ukraine and its European allies have said Russia must first agree to a 30-day truce before any negotiations can take place. U.S. President Donald Trump, however, has urged Ukraine to begin talks with Russia as soon as possible. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he is ready to meet with Putin in person in Istanbul. According to Axios, Zelensky is willing to attend the talks even if Russia refuses to halt fire beginning May 12.
