There are no plans for President Vladimir Putin to travel to the Middle East in mid-May, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, responding to a question from reporters about a possible meeting between Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
In April, Trump had suggested he might meet with Putin following his visit to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates on May 15 and 16.
“On the other hand, as we’ve said many times before, the idea of such a meeting is clearly in the air,” Peskov added, as quoted by Interfax.
The Kremlin believes such a meeting is “certainly necessary,” he said, but emphasized that it would need to be “properly prepared.”
“That requires continued contact between Moscow and Washington, which has been initiated and is ongoing, but for now, there are no concrete plans,” Peskov said.
