Russia will declare a ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8 through May 10, the Kremlin announced on Monday.

“By decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces, Vladimir Putin, and on humanitarian grounds, in connection with the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, Russia will declare a ceasefire from midnight on May 7–8 until midnight of May 10–11. All combat operations will be suspended during this period. Russia believes the Ukrainian side should follow this example,” the Kremlin said in a statement.

It added that if the Ukrainian side violates the ceasefire, Russian forces will deliver an “appropriate and effective response.”
