One person was killed and nine others injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Kursk region on Monday night, according to the regional operational command.

Local authorities said the victim was an 85-year-old woman. The injured sustained shrapnel wounds, head trauma, and burns.

Fires broke out in several buildings across Kursk city. The eighth and ninth floors of an apartment building were damaged, while a fire in another building on the city's Orlovskaya Street spread across five floors.

Regional officials reported finding steel ball bearings — used as shrapnel — at the crash site on Orlovskaya Street. Residents have been relocated to temporary shelters.

Other damaged sites reportedly included an ambulance service garage, where 11 vehicles were hit, as well as three private homes.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said that air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 115 Ukrainian drones overnight on April 15, including 109 over the Kursk region. Three drones were reportedly shot down over the Voronezh region, one each over the Bryansk and Oryol regions, and one in the Moscow region (though it was unclear whether this referred to the city itself or the surrounding area).
